John Peterson

Wrestler John Peterson

John Peterson is an experienced competitor. He participated in wrestling competition at all levels. His most outstanding accomplishments have come at the international level with his two Olympic medals, a silver in 1972 and the gold in 1976.

John is a 1967 graduate of Cumberland High School. He attended Stout State University where he was a three-time Wisconsin State University Champion. His senior year he was 5th in the NAIA national tournament. The State University Conference now present an annual award - The John Peterson Award - for the outstanding conference wrestler.

John as been a member of 2 World Championship teams and took part in 4 cultural exchange trips to the Soviet Union. In both 1973 and 1975 he won the World Cup Tournament in Toledo. He is a 2-time national freestyle champ.

John has gone on to coaching.
