Ben Peterson

Ben Peterson failed to win a WIAA State High School wrestling championship, but he finished second in 1968 at 180 pounds. His wrestling career was only beginning, Ben went on to win a host of titles in both collegiate and freestyle competition.

Ben wrestled at Iowa State where he won three Big 8 titles at 190 pounds. He was an NCAA champion in 1971 and 1972. Ben served as co-captain of the 1972 squad that won the NCAA team title.

Freestyle wrestling brought Ben even more honors including two Olympic medals - a gold from the 1972 Games and a silver medal from the 1976 competition. Ben placed third in the 1973 World Games. In 1975 he won a gold medal in the Pan American Games.

Ben received a degree in architecture from Iowa State as well as post graduate work. He went on to coach at Marantha Baptist College in Watertown.
