Greetings, friends!

As you may know, in May and early June I am co-leading a group of six climbers up the West Rib Route on Mt. McKinley (Denali) in Alaska. This is a moderately technical route, quite a bit more challenging than the standard West Buttress Route that most climbers use on the mountain. We expect the expedition will take about 3 weeks from the time we are flown into our base camp on the Kahiltna Glacier at 7,200 feet to the time we are picked up again by plane.

Our team has been fortunate to receive funding from various sponsors that allows us to purchase a satellite phone, a digital video system, a standard digicamera, and the computer equipment needed to transmit photos, videos, and voice message summaries from the mountain via the satellite phone to a website. We expect to make daily updates to the website. So if you are interested in tracking our progress up Denali (and in learning about the team, our training activities, and the route we are taking), you can do so by going to www.denali04.com . We are well along on getting this site functional at this time, and already have considerable information posted to it. The site is receiving a lot of "hits" everyday, even before weve begun announcing its availability. Many elementary school teachers are showing a strong interest in having their students track our daily progress on McKinley, and we anticipate that several hundred kids will be tuning in each school day during class. 9 News in Denver has also indicated a strong interest in broadcasting updates on our progress up the mountain, about every 3 days.

So I hope youll check out our website, and that you enjoy being "with us"!!

Steve Martin
