Wrestling greetings,

At this time of year the article tends to be a tool of reminders and communications for coaches as we approach the Conference tournaments and State tournament series. Remember that being knowledgeable of the rules and guidelines is a powerful tool in providing the best experience for your athletes. 
 

• Refranking reminder from the WIAA...When going through the RefRanking program to review official rankings, many schools have not ranked officials. It is imperative that coaches have their athletic directors set the coach up in RefRanking and that coaches rank their officials. If the official is not listed, coaches may rank them bygoing to the bottom and their schedule, click on the link that says "Rank All Officials", which will give the coach an alphabetical list of every official in the state.
• Take the time and review the Season Regulations related to weight loss, dates, and procedures related to weight loss for athletes. In the past, there is always been some misunderstanding related to not looking through the season regulations and believing what someone has told you. Take the time and review them. They are online on wiaawi.org.
• An update on the WIAA State Wrestling Tournament in Madison. After many communications with Wade Labecki, our WIAA representative for wrestling, the WIAA is strong in their standing that they want to keep the State Tournament for Wrestling in Madison in the future at this time. As to the format of the tournament, and dates are yet to be determined as they work through the bigger challenges of facility use with the University of Wisconsin officials. The communication lines have continued to remain open and positive between the WIAA and the WWCA. For that we are grateful and we will keep you posted.
• One is our directive out of the WWCA Board this past fall. Coaches take the time and look over the Code of Ethics addressing Coaches Attire at wrestling events. The goal is to have coaches attrire bring a more professional look to the tournaments through out the season, but more importantly to the State tournament series. First impressions last a life time. Let us move our sport above the rest. 
• Lastly, we are approaching the time of year to begin the process for coaches to vote for District coaches of the year and report milestones in coaches careers. Our sport tends to lead us to be humble when successful, but the celebrations of a great season or career milestone creates a buzz about wrestling in your community. Take the time and get involved in the process.
